Who are you, what you do and who you serve?
My name is Vanessa Reddecopp and I’m a small-scale wedding florist. The clients I typically attract are couples who love flowers but aren’t having a large wedding and want to find that happy medium.
What services do you offer?
I’ll do essentially anything for my couples in terms of floral design, though a typical wedding order requested by clients often comprises of bouquets, boutonnieres, eye-catching ceremony pieces, centrepieces or bud vases for the reception tables, and bar arrangements. The wonderful thing about being a small-scale florist is that I’m able to be extra flexible about what I can offer for my couples depending on what they are seeking.
How did you get started in the wedding industry, and what inspired you to become a wedding florist?
So technically I had my start in the wedding industry when I was 16 years old and had just started modeling the year prior. I was hired for a bridal photoshoot for a magazine called "It’s Love". That was my first little taste of it. On that set, I met a dear mentor of mine who really gave me my inspiration and start in the flower industry by allowing me to shadow her for a summer…. You know her as Stone House Creative!
What do you enjoy most about working in the wedding industry and serving couples on their special day?
Weddings are a really spectacular way that we can conceptualize and create visual representations of love stories for everyone to see. This is my bread and butter. Since I’m hyper-focused on the flower aspect, I love urging couples to consider their flowers as yet another way to express their love story, which we can do together by creating a custom colour palette representative of them and design pieces that really just frame them and cohesively help bring all of their details visually together.

What do you believe is the most important consideration when couples are choosing a florist?
Find someone who cares. Of course, florists are still trying to make money because it is their job and they do need to make an income. However, find someone who cares as much about your love story as you do. When planning a wedding, it can be incredibly difficult to keep on top of every little thing, but if you find a florist who cares, that’s one area where you can really just relax and let them do their magic for you.
What is the ideal timeline for couples to book your services in advance of their wedding day?
I only take a really select few weddings each year, so I tend to book up quite fast. That being said, I think if you are on the ball with knowing which of the vendors’s work really speaks to your soul, reaching out a year and a half before your day (if possible) is what I personally recommend to ensure that you get the vendors you’re dreaming of.

What is the best piece of advice you would offer to couples planning their wedding?
Two things: 1. Lean into the process. Make this day about you. Don’t listen to trends, they come and go for a reason. It’s your love story that’s the constant, so make your day about that. Savour it amidst the stress. And 2. Choose vendors whose work you love. When this happens, there’s no need to try and micro-manage your vendors and create more stress all around. If you love their work and know that they care, they will inevitably create magic for you.
Can you share your favorite wedding trend or design idea that you are currently excited about?
My favourite current trend is matching bridal bouquets to their dresses, and doing a whole rainbow of colours. It’s SO aesthetically pleasing to look at and adds a lot of interest and personality to your wedding. I have one bride next season who is doing this with some juicy colours and it’s going to be AMAZING!
How do you stand out?
I stand out in a few ways — for starters, because I’m very vocal about couples having colourful flowers for their weddings and then I consistently illustrate on my page how to do it. I’m meeting with couples for consults and having them tell me that they’re booking me because they want colour and see that I can do colour. I also stand out because I really make it my business to help my clients create their flowers around their love stories and do what’s true to them. It’s so much more personal and I think clients really love that. And lastly, because I only take a few weddings each year, I think that’s given me an accidental “exclusivity” feel, which was not my intention when making that decision. I book up fast earlier and earlier every year…. And I always take more weddings than I did the year before! That’s such a blessing!
