Vendor Spotlight: Nate Matthews

We are excited to shine a spotlight on Nate Matthews today, a wedding videographer, serving couples in and around Winnipeg as well as destination weddings.

Who are you, what you do and who you serve?

I offer wedding films that incorporate getting ready, first look, ceremony, speeches and creative couple shots. Clients can purchase multi-camera wedding ceremony, all the speeches, first dances, and first look. In addition, I offer one minute highlight reel with a quick turnaround that can be posted to Instagram.

How did you get started in the wedding industry, and what inspired you to become a Videographer?

I got started in the wedding industry by offering a free engagement shoot to a couple that I knew - they loved the photos so much that I booked them to shoot their wedding. A year later, as I got into shooting more and more video, I had another friend that wanted me to film their wedding. I really enjoyed capturing the emotions, the special moments and the loving words and ultimately editing them all together to create their wedding film. Since then, I have been shooting a lot of my own weddings as well as learning from others by second shooting with fellow videographers.

What do you enjoy most about working in the wedding industry and serving couples on their special day?

What I enjoy most about working the wedding industry is the lovely couples and vendors I have the privilege of working with. I feel seen and appreciated. The knowledge and willingness of vendors to help out is so incredibly valuable. The thoughtfulness and appreciation of the couples continues to amaze me.

What do you believe is the most important consideration when couples are choosing a Videographer?

An important consideration to make when choosing a videographer is to find someone who focuses on creating a film that lets you relive your wedding day - capturing the emotions and the special moments and ultimately weaving it all together to tell your story.

What is the best piece of advice you would offer to couples planning their wedding?

A great piece of advice I’d offer would be to use a wedding planner. Wedding planners help align the vision of the couple with vendors and help alleviate the stress and unknowns in planning a wedding. And of course - book a videographer!

Can you share your favourite wedding trend or design idea that you're currently excited about?

My favourite wedding trend or moment is sharing a first look and private vows before the ceremony.

How do you stand out?

I stand out because I have shot weddings on both the photo and video side allowing me to understand the needs of each and have the ability to collaborate with the other vendors in a seamless fashion. I have learned so much by second shooting with some of the top photographers in Manitoba that have pushed me creatively and allowed me to bring that knowledge to my films. When booking me, you can be confident that I will be a pleasure to work with while getting beautiful shots.

Anything else you would like to mention?

Ultimately, I love creating fun and emotional films that capture the essence of the couple. Balancing beautiful shots of decor, details, friends, family and the in between moments of the couple create a life-long keepsake.
