Who are you, what you do and who you serve?
Hi! I’m Jake, a wedding and portrait photographer based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and available for travel. My style blends documentary storytelling with an editorial eye, creating photographs that feel both cinematic and deeply personal. I specialize in documenting couples and people who value genuine connection and want images that feel authentic, emotional, and timeless.
What services do you offer?
I primarily photograph weddings, engagements, and couples, but I also offer lifestyle portraits, family sessions, branding photography, and professional headshots. Whether it’s a wedding day or a personal milestone, my goal is always to create images that feel meaningful and true to each person’s story.
How did you get started in the wedding industry, and what inspired you to become a photographer?
Photography first started as a creative hobby back in high school. I loved how it allowed me to express myself and see the world differently. Years later, I had the opportunity to second shoot a few weddings with a friend, and I was instantly hooked. Weddings bring together so many things I love -- human connection, emotion, fashion, creativity, and storytelling. I never expected to fall in love with documenting love stories, but it’s become the most rewarding part of what I do.
What do you enjoy most about working in the wedding industry and serving couples on their special day?
I genuinely love meeting new people and getting to know every couple’s story. Every wedding is different, and it’s incredibly fulfilling to help bring a couple’s vision to life while documenting their day in a way that feels authentic to them. Seeing their reaction when they receive their gallery is easily one of the most rewarding parts of my job.
What do you believe is the most important consideration when couples are choosing a photographer?
Find someone whose work genuinely resonates with you. Every photographer has a unique style, whether it’s documentary, editorial, bright and airy, or dark and moody. Once you know the look and feeling you want your wedding photos to have, it becomes much easier to narrow down photographers who align with your vision and your budget.
What is the ideal timeline for couples to book your services in advance of their wedding day?
Most couples book me about 12 months in advance, and popular dates can fill even earlier. If you have your heart set on a specific photographer, I’d recommend reaching out as soon as you’ve secured your wedding date and venue.
What is the best piece of advice you would offer to couples planning their wedding?
Figure out your non-negotiables early. For many couples, that’s their venue, photographer, videographer, and planner. Once those key vendors are booked, planning the rest of the day becomes much smoother. Having a clear vision of what’s most important to you also helps make every other decision easier.
Can you share your favorite wedding trend or design idea that you're currently excited about?
I’m really drawn to timeless, fashion-inspired details right now. Drapery, cathedral veils, lace boleros, rich burgundy colour palettes, and cascading bouquets all add so much elegance to a wedding day. One trend I’m especially loving is tulips arranged into handbag-inspired bouquets. They’re unexpected, stylish, and such a fun way for couples to add personality to their day.
How do you stand out?
One thing I hear from couples time and time again is how much they connect with the storytelling in my work. Rather than focusing only on perfectly posed images, I look for the moments that make a wedding feel real—the subtle glances, movement, emotion, and everything in between. I want couples to look back at their gallery and not just remember how their day looked, but how it felt.
Anything else you would like to mention?
I’m incredibly grateful to be part of this industry. Six years in, I still get excited every time I photograph a wedding, and it’s a privilege to be trusted with such meaningful moments. I hope to keep telling love stories for many years to come.
