A Day in the Life of a Wedding Planner

Updated: Jun 19, 2023

A few years ago, I was featured on the Planners Lounge (eek it's already been 3 years since that feature) so today I thought I would give you an updated version! Here is a sneak peek into my day to day, since it has changed a bit over the years.

Generally, my day starts around 7 am. The first thing I do in the morning is to scroll social media, and use Planoly to schedule a post in the evening if I know I am going to be in a late meeting.

I have a home office where I meet with my clients, but my workday is generally sectioned off around my 6.5-year-old twin's virtual learning at school (thanks Covid). I often have short periods of kid-free time, which means I accomplish a lot of work in the evening. I also attend a wide variety of client meetings all around the city of Winnipeg depending on which vendors we are meeting with. My favourite meetings are site tours to see new spaces and floral consults, I am a plant lover.

My day generally ends by 9 pm, depending on the day of the week and whether I have meetings, wedding rehearsals, or events. I take Monday off of work every week for much-needed me time.

How did you get started in the industry?

I started in the event industry at the age of 12, crazy I know. I worked as a banquet server and eventually worked my way up to event venue coordinator. I started officiating weddings in 2015 when I saw a bit of a gap in the market. I had gotten many requests from couples for a female officiant, one that was non-religious and somewhere in their age category. I saw my calling and have never looked back.

I originally went to school and graduated from Red River College with a counselling degree. In 2016, I decided to take the WPIC course, and I was hooked instantly and saw the opportunities available to me in my market. I have always had a passion to work with engaged couples on their special days. When I graduated with my counselling degree, the fit just didn't seem right. I wasn't as happy as when I was planning an event!

What inspires you?

I am inspired by nature. I love spending time outside, going camping, lying under the stars, or walking on a beach. I gain valuable clarity during these moments in nature. I am also a huge sucker for scrolling inspirational wedding posts on Instagram for hours, no joke.

I spend the majority of my day listening to podcasts. When I hear other boss babes talking about their careers, struggles, and accomplishments, I just want to head over to my computer and create some magic!

What are your favourite online resources for your business?

I rely heavily on 17 Hats. It is an online resource to track all of my revenue, expenses, workflows, and emails. My business wouldn't be nearly as successful as it is today without 17 Hats.

Recently, I have started to use Loom, which has been super helpful over the pandemic and of course emails and google drives with my staff.

I also interact in a few different Facebook groups with local creatives which are extremely helpful and inspiring.

Aside from wedding and event planning, how do you spend your time?

I love to travel & we camp a lot as a family.

When I am not vacationing with my family, I love to head out to the cabin for a weekend or curl up on my couch with comfy PJ's and a good book.

We have a pretty sizable garden at home and I love spending time out there. My office is a bit of a greenhouse with the amount of plants I have accumulated too!

Thanks for reading, if you need some assistance on your special day, feel free to reach out!

Happy Planning!
