Planning your timeline is a lot more work than you might think. If one thing goes wrong, it's a domino effect on the rest of the day. Here are our 5 tips for planning your wedding timeline to have the smoothest wedding day ever.
Shameless plug here, but honestly, if you want a smooth sailing wedding day, hire a planner. They will have the experience to create a timeline that will be unique to your wedding day, the vendors you have hired and the experience you are looking to create. They will also be able to seamlessly manage any unforeseen circumstances that may arise. If hiring a planner isn't in your budget, consider appointing a family member or friend to essentially keep everyone on track. This is not a favourable option because you will constantly be worried and wondering what is going on behind the scenes, but it's necessary for sure.
Include buffers and mini breaks. What if there is someone in the back ground of the shot and you need to wait a few minutes? What if you get a train? Need a bathroom break? Leave enough time for travel. This doesn't mean exact drive time, but also load in and load out time. Having a bit of a buffer will make you a lot less concerned that you are running late. The last thing you want is to be nervous or anxious on the wedding day.
Include all of the vendors when you plan your timeline. There are so many components to each aspect of the timeline. For example, first dance, you will need to let the DJ know right? You will also need to let the venue know so they stop food service. The photo/video team will need a heads up to be ready. Your wedding planner will make sure key players are in the room. It's a whole domino effect.
Have a plan b. In Winnipeg, we battle the weather nearly every month of the year. If it's not rain, it's snow. Have a plan b in place in the timeline, so that you don't need to backtrack or re-create the morning of the wedding.
Have multiple copies of the timeline available. If you have an emcee, he/she will need one. The venue will need a copy, the vendor team, etc... Be sure that if you are using a printed copy, an electronic version is available in the event the paper copy gets misplaced.
We hope that you have a stress-free, perfect wedding day!
